Shoring Up Our Strengths in Maritime Education and Research
As an international maritime hub, Singapore attracts about 140,000 vessels annually. To help the fast-growing maritime sector chart new frontiers, NTU has established the Maritime Institute @ NTU, or MI@NTU for short.
MI@NTU is one of the four Maritime Institutes @ Institution of Higher Learning under the umbrella of Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI).
The institute will be a focal point for maritime R&D and education, including executive training. It will champion maritime science and technology development, leveraging NTU’s established interdisciplinary strengths in this broad field. As one of the institute’s goals is to support the needs of industry and government, it will work closely with the local maritime sector and national agencies.
MI@NTU will draw on the many active partnerships that NTU has formed with leading maritime companies, including government-funded projects to develop innovative technologies for the marine and offshore sector.
It will also build on and synergise the maritime-related expertise of the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Energy Research Institute @ NTU, Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute, and S Rajaratnam School of International Studies.
